Mostafa El Bahr
BSc (Geology), AFAQ Mining Chairman & Managing Director
Mr. El Bahr has over 40 years of experience in the petroleum industry having worked for both industry and government organizations. He worked as an exploration geologist and petrophysicist in the field studies and prospect generation groups of the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) until 2000. After attending the Senior Executive Program at Harvard Business School (Boston, USA) he joined the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum as Exploration General Manager, later becoming Chairman & Managing Director of the company up till 2007. Mr. El Bahr was appointed Vice Chairman for Exploration & Agreements of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) in 2008, then Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) and Egyptian Geological Survey (EGS) in 2009. He then joined the AGIBA Petroleum Company as Chairman from 2013 till his retirement in 2015. Mr. El Bahr came out of retirement to join AFAQ in 2018.
Ahmed Bassouiny
Bsc (Geology), AFAQ Mining General Manager
Mr. Bassouiny has over 40 years of experience in the petroleum industry working with JV and service & mining companies. He worked as an exploration geologist and petrophysicist in the field studies and prospect generation groups for the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) up to 1991, then as a well site consultant with Baker & Geo Services (1991-1997). In 1997, Mr. Bassouiny joined Halliburton Egypt as a petrophysicist in the Cairo processing centre, later promoted to head of the formation evaluation group, then MENA regional customer support services until his retirement in 2016. Mr Bassouiny left retirement in 2018 to join AFAQ Mining.
Dr. Ragab El Banna
AFAQ Mining VP Exploration
Dr. El Banna has over 25 years of experience in gold exploration in the Arabian-Nubian Shield (Middle East and North Africa area). Ragab holds a BSc in geology (Suez Canal University), Diploma Degree in Mining Engineering, and an MSc and PhD (Menoufia University) on orogenic gold mineralization. Dr. El Banna was employed as an exploration geologist at EMRA, exploring for banded iron formation (BIF) in the south Western Desert of Egypt as well as orogenic gold at many of the historic gold mines in Egypt’s Eastern Desert. Dr. El Banna worked as Exploration Geologist on the Ta-Sn Abu Dabab deposit in the Eastern Desert of Egypt for Australian Gippsland Ltd. He later worked as Field Manager of the Exploration Team for the ASCOM Precious Metals Mining SAE (Egypt) on the Blue Nile Gold and Gadarif Gold Projects in Sudan, and the >1.5 Moz Dish Mountain Gold Deposit in Western Ethiopia. Dr. El Banna joined AFAQ in 2019. He became an International Member (MAusIMM) at Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) in 2020 and obtained his Professional Certificate in JORC Code Reporting in June 2021. Ragab is currently finalizing an MBA at the Arab Academy for Management, Banking and Financial Sciences.
Dr. Hassan Mohy
AFAQ Mining Lead Geologist and Data Manager
Dr. Mohy has over 20 years of experience in the mining and quarrying industry, with expertise in mineral exploration, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing. He holds and doctorate in Geology (Cairo University) as well as an MBA (International Business School of Scandinavia). In 2019 he earned the Cairo University award for best scientific publication and PhD thesis. He has published 10 articles in the scientific literature, specializing in gold exploration and Remote Sensing.
AFAQ Mining also contracts a team of International technical consultants for the West Elbah Project.
